Julep Beauty lip crayon.
Ever since the Clinique Chubbies came out, I’ve loved a good lip crayon. I was slightly too young and broke at the time, so I never got one, but was always jealous that my sister (who was a Clinique insider) had them and in starburst colors no less. There’s something so playful and fun about the chubbies. The chunky crayon shape is whimsical and comes in delectable colors—it’s like a piece of tangible art. I can’t speak to the effectiveness of that product, but I can speak to why I love Julep Beauty’s version. It has a moisturizing balm layer on the inside tip and a colored tint on the outside—the ultimate combo of moisture and color. In Nectar Pink, this product is just a few shades darker than my natural lip color—aka the perfect everyday shade.
The best products usually come to us when we’re not looking, and it was definitely the case for this, which I purchased with Shop Cash that was about to expire. It’s the color I reach for for my morning commute, till I add something bolder after breakfast. It’s what I wear when I don’t want to wear much makeup, or if I’m wearing a statement eye.
Beading.
My latest ADHD hobby is of course, fashion-oriented: making jewelry and keychains out of beads (and sometimes chains). On the continuous journey of charming my Balenciaga A5 tote per the ubiquitous Instagram trend and Y2K nostalgia, I’ve acquired a collection of chains, beads and other baubles. When a friend showed me an overpriced beaded necklace she was thinking of buying, it dawned on me that I could easily make her something similar. I work just around the corner from the garment district, so I have access to some amazing bead stores. To kill time and get outside on my lunch breaks (as I usually pack a lunch to save money), I’ve been going to Tokoshoji, a Japanese bead store in Bryant Park. It’s a great way to move my body and add an aesthetically pleasing break in the day that I always look forward to. From chains of all sizes and metals to unique pendants and charms, seed beads and ceramic beads in every color of the rainbow..the selection is truly a feast for the eyes. Not to mention a cheap thrill—most packs of beads will set you back $2-$5—about half the price of a croissant or a cappuccino.
